Last I had heard, The IT Crowd, a British sitcom about the hilarious exploits of two basement-based geeky IT employees, Roy and Moss and their Tech clueless supervisor, Jen, was not going to be making a fifth series after all, but would instead air a Christmas special in December 2012. Then Katherine Parkinson and hubby, Harry Peacock (Proper Dave of the infamous quote “Hey, who turned out the lights?” from the Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, Doctor Who episodes) announced they were having a baby, and that plan was put on hold. Next we heard in December of last year, that in the middle of this year, we would finally get that special. And now? Crickets chirping.
With Chris O’Dowd and Richard Ayoade working in Hollywood these days and Katherine Parkinson also in increasing demand, will this thing really happen? I, for one, certainly hope so. I need more Roy, Moss, and Jen, if only to wrap the whole thing up and give us one last laugh at how geeky they are and how much they remind me and others of ourselves. Until then, I guess we forlorn fans will have to be content to re-watch old episodes on DVD and streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu.
If you’ve never seen it, check it out. It can give the much beloved The Big Bang Theory a run for its geeky money any day (I love both, no need to compete, really).
